UPTM CELEBRATES NATIONAL SPORTS DAY 2024

Collaboration with Federal Territory Department of Youth and Sports

 (Jabatan Sukan Negara Wilayah Persekutuan)

 

The excitement of National Sports Day /Hari Sukan Negara (HSN) 2024 at the Cheras District level was celebrated with great enthusiasm at UPTM on 12 October 2024 (Saturday). UPTM was selected as the host for the Cheras area in collaboration with the Federal Territory Department of Youth and Sports. A total of 1,000 participants, including local residents, students, and UPTM staff, took part in the event.

The main highlights of the celebration were the “Run for the Nation” and “MADANI Fun Walk”, accompanied by other engaging activities such as Mega Aerobics, Aerodance performances, and many more. Exhibition booths from both government and non-government agencies also added to the festive atmosphere of HSN 2024.

The Cheras District HSN 2024 was officiated by YBrs. Mr. Bryan Lew Chee Kwan, Deputy Chairman II of the Federal Territory Sports Council. Also present were Mr. Javiques Badana Anak Joannis, Youth and Sports Officer for the Cheras District, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sharifah Syahirah binti Sy Shiekh, Vice-Chancellor of UPTM, along with members of the university management team.

 

 

SAVE YOUR SELF (SAYS)

 

The “Save Your Self (SAYS)” program was successfully conducted on 27 October 2024, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, at Dewan PPR Desa Petaling, Kuala Lumpur. The program was part of the Community Event Management and Planning (COC4033) course under the Bachelor of Communication (Hons) in Corporate Communication, Faculty of Education, Social Sciences, and Humanities (FESSH), Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM).

Led by Madam Immie Rozianie Abd Rahim, the activity involved 14 students from Section 1 and was designed for children aged 13 to 15 years old. The program aimed to train participants on effective ways to avoid kidnapping and respond during emergencies. It also sought to raise awareness of appropriate immediate actions in emergency situations outside the home and to strengthen relationships with government agencies responsible for public safety.

Overall, the program achieved its objectives by enhancing participants’ self-protection knowledge, promoting community safety awareness, and fostering collaboration between students and relevant security agencies.

COLLEGE CUT PODCAST: ADHD

 

The College Cut Podcast, an initiative by Early Childhood Education students from the Faculty of Education, Social Sciences, and Humanities (FESSH), aired its second episode on 4 November 2024, featuring Dr. Mohd Zuri Bin Ghani, a Special Education Expert, who discussed the topic of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Broadcasted on YouTube via The Magnificent Society channel, the podcast serves as a platform to share knowledge and raise public awareness about mental health and developmental conditions.

This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, which emphasizes ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages. By addressing topics such as ADHD, the podcast contributes to improving mental health literacy, reducing stigma, and fostering early intervention and support for individuals with special needs. Through this effort, UPTM students play an active role in promoting a healthier, more informed, and inclusive society.
