Through initiatives such as the Institute for Bumiputera Economic Studies (IKEB), ASEAN Excursion Series, and participation in national and international conferences, UPTM demonstrates its strong commitment to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering cooperation, research, and dialogue that support sustainable development.

A courtesy visit by Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) took place on 18 January 2023. The meeting agenda included a courtesy call by the President of UPTM on the Chief Executive Officer of EMGS, as well as a strategic discussion on international student marketing strategies.

The courtesy visit to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) was led by YBhg. Assoc. Prof. Dr Sharifah Syahirah binti Syed Sheikh, President of UPTM, accompanied by key members of the university’s leadership, including Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr Zahrah binti Yahya (Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic & Internationalisation), Assoc. SYMPOSIUM ON THE BUMIPUTERA ECONOMY CONGRESS: SUSTAINABILITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION AND BUMIPUTERA EMPOWERMENT

 

On Tuesday, 20 February 2024, the Symposium on the Bumiputera Economy Congress (KEB) themed “Sustainability in Higher Education and Bumiputera Empowerment” was successfully held at Dewan Nilam, Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM). The Symposium actively discussed the importance of KEB in strengthening the Bumiputera economy, with the objective of generating positive impacts on policy directions and new approaches for the Bumiputera agenda, particularly in preparation for KEB.

The opening ceremony was graced by YB Dato’ Haji Shamsulkahar bin Haji Mohd Deli, Chairman of KPTM, alongside members of the senior management of KPTM and UPTM. The Symposium was moderated by Dr Mohd Erfino bin Johari, followed by presentations and recommendations from experienced panellists, including Cik Izzana Salleh, CEO of RISE Human Capital; Dr Syamsul Fozy bin Osman, Deputy President of Student Development and Campus Lifestyle, UPTM; and Dr Mazeni binti Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Kolej Poly-Tech MARA Kota Bharu.

The congress focused on advancing Bumiputera education agendas and producing resolutions that could positively impact the Bumiputera community in terms of economy, education, and individual development. UPTM remains committed to supporting the sustainability of government missions and visions, aiming to ensure the sustainability of higher education and Bumiputera economic development.

UNIVERSITI POLY-TECH MALAYSIA (UPTM) LAUNCHES SEMINAR PERADABAN ISLAM DAN KETAMADUNAN MALAYSIA SIRI 7/2024 (SPIKEM)

 

Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) launched the 2024 series of Seminar Peradaban Islam dan Ketamadunan Malaysia (SPIKEM) with an event held on 28 February 2024 at the university.

More than 200 UPTM students participated in this program, organised in collaboration with YADIM, and officiated by the deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan. The program carried the theme “Sustaining Ihsan Values for the Development of Civil Society Human Capital.”

The seminar began with the Tokoh Discourse session titled “Sustainability of Ihsan in Character Formation”, featuring Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom, Chairman of the National Islamic Education Coordination Committee, Majlis Kebangsaan Bagi Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Malaysia, as the panelist, while Ustaz Mohd Marzuki Haji Ali, Head of the Centre for Islamic, General and Language Studies (CIGLS), UPTM, acted as the moderator.

This was followed by a forum titled “Ihsan as a Driver of Human Capital Leadership”, featuring three distinguished panellists: Dr Fatimah Syarha Mohd Noordin, Trustee of YADIM and Deputy Chair of the Special Research Committee on Dakwah; Dr Madihatun Zainuddin, Senior Lecturer in Islamic Studies, CIGLS, UPTM; and Associate Professor Dr Salasiah Hanin Hamjah, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The forum was moderated by Dr Mohd Erfino Johari, Senior Lecturer in Islamic Studies, CIGLS, UPTM.

During the closing remarks, Senator Dr Zulkifli highlighted that the organisation of SPIKEM aligns with the post-normal era, where values of ihsan and humanity are increasingly recognised.

Also present at the event were Dr. Masitah Esa, Head of the YADIM Research Unit on Dakwah, along with UPT M management and officers.

MYSDG CONFERENCE 2024

 

Dr Madihatun binti Zainuddin, a Senior Lecturer from the Centre of Islamic, General and Language Studies (CIGLS), attended the MYSDG Conference 2024 held on 11 to 12 May 2024 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. She presented a case study entitled “Exploring the Empowerment of Knowledge among the Indigenous Community of Kg Pabai, Rembau, Negeri Sembilan.”

INSTITUTE FOR BUMIPUTERA ECONOMIC STUDIES (IKEB)

 

A delegation from the Institute for Bumiputera Economic Studies (IKEB), UPTM, visited the Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA) on Friday, 16 May 2025.

YBrs led the delegation: Prof. Dr Azahari bin Jamaludin, Director of IKEB-UPTM. The session provided a platform for strategic discussions on potential collaborations in rural development, particularly in areas such as training, research, and community capacity building. As a Centre of Rural Excellence (C.O.R.E.), INFRA remains committed to being a key driver in empowering rural communities through inclusive and sustainable approaches that support the national rural development agenda.

INFRA greatly values the interest and initiative shown by IKEB and UPTM in strengthening strategic networks for mutual benefit. It is hoped that this collaboration will catalyse a more progressive, prosperous, and competitive rural future, in line with INFRA’s aspiration: “Membitara INFRA, Memaju Desa.”

COURTESY VISIT TO BANK MUAMALAT HEADQUARTERS

 

A courtesy visit was made to Bank Muamalat's headquarters on 16 May 2024. Discussions were held with Tn. Hj. Muhamad Radzuan Ab Rahman and Tn. Hj. Zaharuddin regarding opportunities to develop entrepreneurship among students of Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) and sponsorships for ACCA students.

The aspirations of IPS were also conveyed to Bank Muamalat for consideration. Prayers and well wishes were extended for all parties involved.

Additionally, the intent of KISAS to upgrade the Library at PERKISAS under the Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor-Muamalat and Persatuan Insan Cakna Malaysia was also shared, to support CSR programs in the Kingdom of Cambodia and Vietnam during the Kembara Korban Kemboja 1445H.

ASEAN EXCURSION SERIES 1/2024

CAMBODIA AND VIETNAM

 

A Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) delegation, led by YBhg. Assoc. Prof. Dr Syamsul Fozy bin Osman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs & Alumni, has successfully commenced the ASEAN Excursion Series 1/2024, an international engagement initiative aimed at fostering regional collaboration and cross-cultural learning among ASEAN member countries. As part of the program, a total of 29 delegates from UPTM had the opportunity to make a courtesy visit to the Embassy of Malaysia in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, which the Malaysian Ambassador warmly received. They were in Cambodia and Vietnam from June 18 to 23, 2024, together with the teams from Pertubuhan Insan Cakna Malaysia and Integrated Tahfiz Cambodia (INTAC).

The session included discussions on current issues and challenges faced by Malaysian students residing in Cambodia and other countries. In addition, the meeting also explored potential initiatives that UPTM could undertake to strengthen the relationship between the student community and the diplomatic representatives at the embassy.

On 21 June 2024 (Friday), Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) conducted a courtesy visit to Yayasan LTAT to discuss potential educational opportunities for the children of military personnel and active officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM). UPTM also expressed its commitment to serve as a consultant and facilitator in guiding their career pathways.

DIALOGUE ON INNOVATIVE HIGHER EDUCATION STRATEGIES (DIES)

 

The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM), Assoc. Prof. Dr Sharifah Syahirah was selected to participate in the prestigious Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies (DIES), organised by DAAD and the German Rectors’ Conference. The program brought together 29 university leaders from across Southeast Asia and was held at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and Freie Universität Berlin from 23 June  to 5 July, 2024.

UPTM remains committed to expanding and strengthening its international collaborations in teaching, research, and strategic partnerships. Through such initiatives, the university continues to advance knowledge and foster global competencies among the nation’s youth.

On 24 July 2024 (Wednesday), the management of Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) paid a courtesy visit to TalentCorp Malaysia at its headquarters. The delegation was warmly received by Mr Thomas Mathew, Group Chief Executive Officer; Mr Mas Muhammad Hakim bin Masika, Vice President of Government, Corporate Secretarial and School; and the TalentCorp management team.

Led by Associate Professor Dr Sharifah Syahirah binti Sy Shiekh, Vice Chancellor of UPTM, the visit aimed to explore potential collaborations in programme development, student industrial training (both locally and abroad), and knowledge exchange initiatives.

During the session, TalentCorp shared insights into the latest employment ecosystem and training opportunities offered by the organisation, opening new avenues for UPTM students to benefit from future collaborative initiatives between the two institutions.

WOMEN’S ASPIRATION SEMINAR (ASWANI) 2024

 

Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) organised the Women’s Aspiration Seminar (ASWANI) 2024, which brought together distinguished women leaders with expertise across various fields. These leaders exemplified the aspirations of Wanita Madani in the realms of language, literature, and culture.

The seminar, officiated by YB Puan Fadhlina Binti Sidek, Minister of Education Malaysia, was held over two days from 30 to 31 July 2024 at Balai Budaya Tun Syed Nasir, Wisma DBP.

Associate Professor Dr Sharifah Syahirah binti Sy Shiekh, Vice-Chancellor of UPTM, was invited as a panellist for the forum titled “Women Leading: Challenges and Positioning in National Administration.” Other invited panellists included Prof. Dr Haslinda Abdullah, Director of the Institute of Social Sciences Studies, UPM, and Datuk Dr Hafsah Hashim, Chairperson of the Women Leadership Foundation.

CAKNA WELFARE CONVENTION – ASEAN PILLAR

(KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA)

 

This convention discussed the need for better coordination in school management and curriculum implementation. UPTM, in collaboration with NGOs, welfare associations, and volunteer organisations in Malaysia and Cambodia, strives to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on:

  • No Poverty (Goal 1)

  • Quality Education (Goal 4)

  • Affordable and Clean Energy (Goal 7)

  • Climate Action (Goal 13)

  • Partnerships for the Goals (Goal 17)

The objective of the convention was to strengthen relationships with Malaysian NGOs, welfare associations, and volunteer organisations that are involved in volunteer activities in Cambodia. It also aimed to coordinate efforts and curriculum development for educational institutions sponsored by these organisations, as well as provide advisory services to these institutions.

SPEAKERS AND FACILITATORS IN SOCIAL FORESTRY SDG PROGRAM

 

As part of its commitment to national sustainability efforts, UPTM demonstrated active engagement in SDG initiatives through the participation of four lecturers from the Faculty of Business & Accounting as speakers and facilitators in the Social Forestry SDG Program, organised by the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia (JPSM). Through the Community Nursery Workshop to Empower the Buyback Guarantee Model, held in Kampung Rening, Cameron Highlands, from August 23 to 25, 2024, local environmental and community challenges were identified, sustainable strategies were developed, and capacity-building among rural communities was promoted. This collaboration reflects the university’s active contribution to SDG-related policy development, particularly in advancing SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

A courtesy visit was conducted by the Student and Alumni Affairs Division of Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) to the Jabatan Belia dan Sukan Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur (JBS KL) on August 16, 2024, to explore potential collaboration on student activities. The visit supported government-led youth empowerment initiatives under the Rakan Muda program, reflecting UPTM’s involvement in SDG-related policy engagement, particularly in advancing SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

PERAK STATE SOCIAL FORESTRY RETREAT

 

FABA's expertise sharing with the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia in greening Malaysia continues with the Perak State Social Forestry Retreat on 28 August 2024 at Kg Ulu Chepor, Perak.

FABA was represented by Dr. Noor Rohin Binti Awalludin (Senior Accounting Lecturer), Pn. Noorraha binti Abdul Razak (Business Lecturer), and Mr. Fazrul Radzi bin Shaharom (Business Lecturer). The program was also attended by village heads from the Chemor sub-district and local entrepreneurs.

The session, which also involved several government agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, the Health Department, the Perak State Forestry Department, and a representative from the Tambun parliamentary office, demonstrated UPTM’s active participation in multi-agency collaboration to support national and regional SDG initiatives. Through the sharing of knowledge and insights by representatives from the Faculty of Business and Accounting (FABA), contributions were made toward identifying local challenges, strengthening community resilience, and supporting sustainable entrepreneurship. This initiative reflects UPTM’s involvement in SDG-related policy engagement, particularly in advancing SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

On 18 September 2025, Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM), through the Institute for Bumiputera Economic Studies (IKEB), held a meeting with the Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia (DPMM) at the Mutiara Meeting Room, UPTM.

The meeting was chaired by Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Nizam bin Jali, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), and attended by Prof. Dr. Azahari bin Jamaludin, Director of IKEB. From DPMM, participants included YBhg. Encik Norsyahrin bin Hamidon (President of DPMM), YBhg. Dato Mazrol Nizam (Secretary-General of DPMM), YBhg. Encik Azlan bin Awang (Senior MTEM Fellow), and YBhg. Cik Adilah binti Nazri (Senior Manager of DPMM).

Key agendas of the meeting included discussions on research collaborations based on KEB24 and Putera35, matching grant opportunities between IKEB and DPMM, collaboration in consultancy and training activities, as well as exploring other strategic potential initiatives.

This initiative represents an important step in strengthening academic-industry networks to support the integrated development of the Bumiputera economy.

PARENT-TEACHER ASSOCIATION OF SEKOLAH KEBANGSAAN SERI BINTANG SELATAN (PIBG SKSBS)

 

On 18 September 2025, Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM), through the Institute for Bumiputera Economic Studies (IKEB), held a meeting with the Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia (DPMM) at the Mutiara Meeting. In an effort to strengthen collaborative networks with the local community, the Faculty of Business & Management (FABA) held an initial meeting in September 2024 with the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) of Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Bintang Selatan (SKSBS) to discuss potential areas of collaboration that would also benefit the surrounding community.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the SKSBS management. During the discussion, the Chairman of PIBG SKSBS, Mr Mohd Shukri Othman, proposed several joint programs to be organised in collaboration with FABA, represented by the Dean, Assoc. 50th ANNIVERSARY FORUM OF MALAYSIA-CHINA RELATIONS

 

The 50th Anniversary Forum of Malaysia-China Relations was organised by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) on Wednesday, 23 October 2024, at Hotel Seri Pacific. The forum brought together participants from various higher education institutions (HEIs) to discuss and reflect on bilateral relations between Malaysia and China.

VICE-CHANCELLOR ENGAGEMENT SESSION WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS OF UPTM

 

25 October 2024 – An engagement session between UPTM’s international students and the Vice-Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sharifah Syahirah binti Sy Sheikh, was held at Hotel Maluri. The session was also attended by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syamsul Fozy bin Osman; Prof. Dr. Abdul Razak bin Ibrahim; and Mr. Mohamed Farhanuddean bin Ahmad Najib. The session was organised by the International Student Unit, Student Affairs Department (HEPA).

The engagement involved approximately 18 international students representing various countries, including Indonesia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Brunei. The main objectives of this session were to provide a platform for international students to interact with UPTM’s management and to encourage their active participation in campus activities. This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, emphasising inclusivity and global engagement within the university community.

3RD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TEACHER EDUCATION 2024 (ICTE`24)

 

The 3rd International Conference on Teacher Education 2024 (icte`24) is aimed to support the national education blueprint for quality education that fosters sustainable development.

6TH INTERNATIONAL QUALITATIVE RESEARCH CONFERENCE 2024

 

Congratulations to Associate Professor Dr. Nisrin Alyani Ishak, Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Graduate Studies (IGS), for being selected as the Best Presenter at the 6th International Qualitative Research Conference 2024 (October). May this achievement serve as an inspiration and a catalyst for even greater success in the future.

COURTESY VISIT BY UPTM TO MINISTER OF EDUCATION MALAYSIA

 

A delegation from Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM), led by Associate Professor Dr. Sharifah Syahirah binti Sy Shiekh, Vice Chancellor of UPTM, paid a courtesy visit to YB Fadhlina Sidek, Minister of Education Malaysia, on 5 November 2024 (Tuesday).

During the visit, UPTM expressed its intention to collaborate with the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) to explore opportunities for UPTM students to undergo industrial training placements at MOE schools. In addition, potential areas of collaboration in research and knowledge exchange were also discussed as part of the meeting agenda.

The visit was also attended by Professor Ts. Dr. Zahrah binti Yahya, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & Internationalisation); Associate Professor Dr. Syamsul Fozy bin Osman, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni); Associate Professor Dr. Muhamad Nizam bin Jali, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation); along with the deans of various faculties.

MADANI MALAYSIAN INTELLECTUALS FORUM

 

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sharifah Syahirah binti Sy Shiekh, the Vice-Chancellor of UPTM, was invited to attend the Madani Malaysian Intellectuals Forum on "Direction and Strategy of ASEAN-Malaysia Chairmanship 2025" on Friday, 22 November 2024, at the Seri Perdana Complex, Putrajaya.

The forum, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was led by Deputy Prime Minister YAB Dato' Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi and attended by YB Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Shamsul Azri bin Abu Bakar, the Chief Secretary to the Government; heads of ministry secretaries; representatives from government agencies; and experts from various fields.

During the forum, the UPTM Vice-Chancellor shared her view that Malaysia's main direction in leading ASEAN next year should be to ensure the three core Madani values of economic well-being, social equity, and sustainability are integrated into Malaysia's leadership model as the ASEAN chairman. The UPTM Vice-Chancellor concluded by saying that it is time for Malaysia to shape a better reality for ASEAN.
