SIGNING CEREMONY OF THE MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION AND PREMIER LECTURE WITH THE SOUTHEAST ASIAN MINISTERS OF EDUCATION ORGANIZATION REGIONAL CENTRE FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION (SEAMEO SEN)

 

Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation and held a Premier Lecture with SEAMEO SEN on Wednesday, 6 March 2024, at Lecture Theatre 5.1.6. The event, organized by the Faculty of Computing and Multimedia (FCOM), was attended by UPTM lecturers and students. The signing ceremony was officiated by Associate Professor Dr. Sharifah Syahirah binti Sy. Shiekh, Vice-Chancellor of UPTM, and Dr. Mohd Azlis Sani bin Md. Jalil, Deputy Director of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Special Education (SEAMEO SEN), and witnessed by Dr. Saifuddin bin Hj Mohtaram, Dean of FCOM.

Through this collaboration, UPTM aims to strengthen mutual understanding and partnership with SEAMEO SEN while expanding its international presence, particularly within the Southeast Asian region. This cooperation also reflects UPTM’s aspiration to produce competitive lecturers and students equipped with the skills to conduct quadraplex helix research involving universities, industries, and the public sector. The partnership opens opportunities for both institutions to explore and initiate collaborative research and innovation, which will benefit the UPTM community and create a positive impact in the field of education.

COURTESY VISIT AND DISCUSSION SESSION BETWEEN UPTM AND THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF MALAYSIA

HONG KONG, 24 April 2024 – The courtesy visit and discussion session between the delegation of Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM), led by Associate Professor Dr. Sharifah Syahirah binti Sy Shiekh, Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Mohd Erfino bin Mohd Johari, Director of the Industrial Linkages & Academic Internationalisation Sector, with Mr. Muzambli Markam, Consul General of Malaysia in Hong Kong, and Mr. Fadzlullah Haleem Kamaruddin, Consul (Economic), was successfully held at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Hong Kong.

The UPTM delegation expressed appreciation to the Consulate General for the warm welcome and fruitful discussions that strengthened collaborative efforts to enhance UPTM’s global presence. UPTM ESTABLISHES ACADEMIC COLLABORATION WITH UNIVERSITIES IN HONG KONG

 

The Consulate General of Malaysia warmly welcomes Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia’s (UPTM) initiative to collaborate with The University of Hong Kong (HKU), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) under the Young Talent Development Programme (YTP).

The Consul General of Malaysia assured that the Consulate General in Hong Kong, representing Wisma Putra, will provide full assistance and support to graduates from the Foundation in Commerce (FC001) and Foundation in Information Technology (FT001) programmes who intend to pursue their bachelor’s degrees in Hong Kong.

On 26 April 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Sharifah Syahirah binti Sy Shiekh, Vice Chancellor of UPTM, signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) and a Note of Collaboration (NoC) on behalf of UPTM with The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). All three universities are expected to send their respective Letters of Acknowledgment (LoA) following this meeting.

EDUCATION MALAYSIA GLOBAL SERVICES (EMGS)

On 11 May 2024, the "Let's Study in Malaysia" Education Fair took place at the Grand Tjokro Hotel in Balikpapan, Kalimantan, Indonesia, organized by Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS). UPTM was represented by Dr. Nurul Fitri binti Mohd Noor, a Senior Lecturer from the Faculty of Business, Accounting & Social Sciences, and Puan Zuhaida binti Zaharuddin from the International Student Unit, Student & Alumni Affairs Division.

A total of 13 Malaysian higher education institutions, including UPTM, participated in this education fair. The fair targeted students who have completed grades 11 and 12, as well as diploma graduates, to pursue their studies in Malaysia.

LET'S STUDY IN MALAYSIA

EDUCATION MALAYSIA GLOBAL SERVICES (EMGS)

KEDUTAAN BESAR MALAYSIA, JAKARTA DAN SWISS-BEL HOTEL, BOGOR (INDONESIA)

 

On 15 and 16 May 2024, the "Let's Study in Malaysia" Education Fair was held at the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta and the Swiss-Bel Hotel in Bogor, Indonesia, organized by Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS).

A total of 19 Malaysian higher education institutions, including UPTM, participated in this education fair. The fair targeted students who have completed grade 12, as well as diploma and bachelor's degree holders, to pursue their studies in Malaysia.

This Education Fair was launched by the Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Syed Md Hasrin Tengku Hussin. It is hoped that this effort will further strengthen UPTM's brand and international network while also increasing the number of international students in the future.

COURTESY VISIT FROM UNIVERSIDAD IXTLAHUACA, CUI MEXICO TO UPTM

 

On 24 May 2024 (Friday), Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) welcomed a courtesy visit from the delegation of Universidad Ixtlahuaca, CUI Mexico.

The delegation was led by Dr. Margarito Ortega Ballesteros, Rector of Universidad Ixtlahuaca, along with Dr. Karina Balderas Pérez (Director, Faculty of Computer and Telecommunications Engineering), Dr. Alicia Rendón Domínguez (Director, Bachelor of Gastronomy), Professor Dato’ Dr. Rashila Ramli (Principal Visiting Fellow, UNU-IIGH), Dr. Nik Mohamad Hasif Mat (Junior Fellow, Latin American Studies Centre, UKM), and representatives from UTHM and UKM.

The meeting discussed potential collaborations in academic programmes, research initiatives, and student mobility between both institutions. A Note of Collaboration (NoC) was also signed to formalize the partnership.

This visit marked an important step for UPTM in exploring academic opportunities in South America, beginning with Universidad Ixtlahuaca, CUI Mexico, and paved the way for future academic and expertise exchanges between the two universities.

 

 

VISIT BY THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG (HKU) STUDENTS 

 

On 29 May 2024 (Wednesday), Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) welcomed a delegation from The University of Hong Kong (HKU) as part of the international student mobility programme between the two universities.

The delegation comprised Mr. Nate Ho, Programme Manager from the HKU Admissions Office; Ms. Teresa Deng, Student Recruitment Advisor; and 30 students from The University of Hong Kong.

During the visit, UPTM students had the opportunity to engage and interact with the HKU students through a variety of fun and interactive activities. These sessions not only strengthened the bond between both universities but also provided a valuable platform for students to exchange cultures and learning experiences.

This visit is expected to inspire UPTM to continue fostering international collaborations and expanding its global academic network. The initiative aligns with UPTM’s mission to provide a world-class educational experience for its students while enhancing the university’s recognition on the international stage.

ASEAN EXCURSION SERIES 1/2024

CAMBODIA AND VIETNAM

        

Student Representative Council of Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (MPPUPTM) had the opportunity to participate in the historic ASEAN Excursion 2024 program in Cambodia and Vietnam for six days and five nights, from 18 to 23 June 2024.

This program was an initiative by the Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) delegation in collaboration with several strategic partners, including Pertubuhan Insan Cakna Malaysia, Koperasi Kolej Poly-Tech Mara Kuala Lumpur, Institute of Integrated Tahfiz Cambodia, Student Affairs and Alumni UPTM, Centre of Islam General & Language Studies UPTM, and the International Language Education Institute.

This initiative promotes intercultural understanding and humanitarian engagement, aligning with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)

DIALOGUE ON INNOVATIVE HIGHER EDUCATION STRATEGIES (DIES)

The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sharifah Syahirah, was selected to participate in the prestigious Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies (DIES), organized by DAAD and the German Rectors’ Conference. The program brought together 29 university leaders from across Southeast Asia and was held at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and Freie Universität Berlin from 23 June to 5 July 2024.

GOLD AND SPECIAL AWARDS (INDONESIA YOUNG SCIENTIST ASSOCIATION / BEST ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARD / BEST PRESENTATION) AT WORLD YOUTH STEM INNOVATION

 

Congratulations to Mohd Amiruldaniel bin Abdul Nasir from the UPTM Research and Innovation Club for his remarkable achievement in winning the Gold Award and Special Awards Indonesia Young Scientist Association Award, Best Entrepreneurship Award, and Best Presentation at the World Youth STEM Innovation competition organized by the Malaysia Young Scientist Organisation (MYSO).

UPTM also extends its appreciation to the club’s advisor, Associate Professor Dr. Norhaninah binti A. Gani, for her invaluable guidance and mentorship that led to this outstanding achievement.

This remarkable success has brought great pride to UPTM, showcasing the university’s presence on the global stage of innovation and education. MOBILITY STUDENTS FROM CUI MEXICO

Welcome to Cesar Augusto Campos Padilla and Elissa Nicolle Andrade Becerril, Bachelor’s Degree students in Gastronomy from Universidad Ixtlahuaca CUI, Mexico, to Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM).

Both students are participating in an international mobility program at UPTM from 20 July to 31 July 2024, organized by the Industrial Linkages and Academic Internationalization (ILAI) office.

This initiative supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by promoting cross-cultural learning and strengthening global academic collaboration.

Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic & Internationalization Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia - UPTM, Prof. Ts. Dr. Zahrah Yahya, spent time with mobility students from CUI Mexico, along with lecturers from CIGLS Ahmad Khairul Ashraff bin Saari and ILAI's personnel  who conducted today's program.

Various activities were explored by the international mobility students from Mexico during their stay at UPTM last July. They were also warmly welcomed by UPTM’s top management, faculty administrators, as well as academic and support staff.

On 24 July 2024 (Thursday), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) paid a courtesy visit to Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) as a return visit following UPTM’s earlier engagement with HKUST in April 2024. The HKUST delegation comprised Ms. Crystal Lui (Manager, Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions Office), Mr. Robert Chan (Assistant Manager, Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions Office), and Prof. Dr. Qing Kai Dong (Department of Accounting, School of Business and Management).

The visit signified a strong and growing relationship between UPTM and HKUST, following the academic collaboration agreement signed in April 2024. Various discussions were held to explore opportunities for enhancing international student mobility, internship programmes, credit transfer initiatives, and other academic collaborations.
