Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM) made history today by celebrating 2,135 inaugural graduates at the First Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia, held at the World Trade Centre (WTC) on 16-17 December 2023. This convocation is the first to be held since UPTM was recognized as a full university.
The Chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Datuk Dr. Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, said the establishment of another university under MARA serves to complete the higher education ecosystem, with a focus on excellence in business and accounting.
“The recognition will drive UPTM towards the development of skilled and professional human capital, particularly in the fields of business, accounting, education, and information technology. UPTM offers quality academic programs that are in high demand and always relevant to industry needs,” he said at the convocation ceremony.
A total of four graduates received Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, 38 graduates received Master’s degrees, 62 graduates received Postgraduate Diplomas in Education, 36 graduates received Professional Studies certifications, 1,038 graduates received Bachelor’s degrees, and 957 received diplomas.
In 2023, 69% of UPTM graduates were female, compared to 31% male, highlighting the university's alignment with SDG 5: Gender Equality. This substantial female graduation rate reflects the institution’s dedication to creating equal educational opportunities, fostering women’s empowerment, and supporting long-term gender parity in academic achievement and career prospects.
